Join us at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry for the world premiere of This Little Relic, a new audio play created in partnership with BBC Contains Strong Language and BBC 3, for Coventry City of Culture 2021.

Written by Karla Marie Sweet, whose writing credits include the Netflix/BBC drama Get Even and Channel 4’s HollyoaksThis Little Relic is a raw and honest portrayal of life for one Coventry community.

In a community centre in Coventry, a rebellion is rising. Mr. Sims determined to produce the perfect version of Ira Aldridge’s play The Black Doctor, whilst music loving teenagers Alex and Ajay have their own ideas about how the play should be performed.

Mr. Sims knows the community centre itself is at risk of being torn down and, under mounting pressure, decides everything is riding on this performance going well. If it does, it just may prove the community centre, a haven for local young people, is worth saving.

Directed by Justine Themen, the Belgrade’s own Co-artistic Director for Coventry City of Culture 2021, This Little Relic explores a range of important issues affecting young people today, including: postcode wars, inter-racial relationships, identity and community. This thought-provoking new audio play also features music from some of Coventry’s most exciting artists.

NEED TO KNOW: This Little Relic will run in the Belgrade’s intimate B2 auditorium from Weds 29 Sept to Sat 2 Oct. Tickets start from just £11.75, or even cheaper if booked online
