What’s it about?
From the writer behind the hit show Tartuffe (Remixed), starring Mark Rylance, comes Julius Caesar (Remixed), a bold adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic tale of ambition, loyalty and betrayal.
Darren Raymond, Artistic Director of Intermission Youth, the charity that transforms young people’s lives through theatre, whole-person support and Shakespeare, brings his sharp, rhythmic writing to this striking new production starring this year’s cohort.
Weaving Shakespeare’s verse with contemporary street language, Raymond draws out the rhythm, wordplay and lyrical power they share, giving a fierce, authentic voice to today’s youth culture.
Following the tragic death of Jerome during a fight between two rival London secondary schools, tensions remain dangerously high. So when Malik, a student from the opposing school, transfers into Jerome’s former classroom, old wounds are ripped open. For many, welcoming an outsider feels impossible.
As the students prepare for their end-of-term production, Malik is unexpectedly cast as Julius Caesar. Zoe, burdened by secrets of her own, is determined to turn her classmates against him. As the class rehearse the play the lines between Shakespeare and reality blur. But can the students rewrite history, or are they destined to repeat it? Julius Caesar Remixed is a play within a play, where Shakespeare’s famous story begins to mirror the students’ own lives.
