Inspired by surrealism, 90s R&B and the many misadventures of Temi Wilkey‘s own love life LOVER GIRL charts the highs and lows of romantic love through the eyes of a dark-skinned, bisexual, Black woman and is the 2nd in a planned trilogy by Temi exploring radical forms of black love.
After bell hooks and Beyoncé, there’s a new iconic trilogy in town…
Produced by Bobby Harding in association with Soho Theatre, LOVER GIRL will run at The Edinburgh Fringe 2026 at Pleasance, Upstairs from 4 – 30 August, and then transfer to Soho, Upstairs from 2 – 22 November, 2026.
Temi is a Lover Girl but, somehow, always single! After sell-out shows across the country, she thought she’d be fighting suitors off. But, no. So, she’s made another one! Will you love her as much as she loves herself? Sexy, surreal and gloriously self-indulgent – Temi is back. And this one’s for the lovers.
‘I’m taking off my rose-tinted glasses and exploring why it can be so hard to find love as a Black woman – when society both desexualises and hyper-sexualises you. Journeying through the confounding infinitude of my own bisexuality – I crawl out of the rabbit hole and into the light. Which turns out… to be a spotlight! The one place I feel truly bathed in a utopian vision of love – beyond societal constructs where time is wiggly, gender is fluid and everyone can surrender to what is truly natural – falling in love with me.’ – Temi xxx
