At the heart of London’s Lyric Theatre, Hadestown reimagines the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice as a rich, soulful, jazz-soaked triumph. This isn’t just mythology retold — it’s passion, power and poetry wrapped in a stunning wall of sound. From the first note, the show crackles with energy, swagger and heart.
When Eurydice is drawn into the dark industrial underworld of Hadestown by the powerful Hades, Orpheus sets out on a dangerous mission to bring her back, armed with nothing but music and faith. Blending folk, jazz and blues with stunning storytelling, the production feels both timeless and strikingly modern — a haunting fable wrapped in irresistible rhythm and heart.

What makes this production truly soar is the magnetic presence of its performers, who bring extraordinary depth, warmth and charisma to the stage. Their voices don’t just fill the theatre — they shake it. Every song lands with emotional force, every moment feels lived-in and real. There’s a glorious richness to the storytelling that makes the ancient tale feel urgent, human and fiercely contemporary.
This time, Afridiziak whoops and hollers go out to: Persephone (Played by understudy Michelle Andrews) is an absolute force in this production – glamorous, fiery and impossible to ignore. She sweeps onto the stage with infectious energy, bringing flashes of humour and mischief that light up even the darkest moments of the story. But beneath the sparkle is real emotion: her fractured relationship with Hades gives the show some of its most poignant moments.
Vocally sensational and bursting with charisma, Persephone is wild – part party queen, part tragic truth-teller, and utterly captivating throughout. And then there’s Hermes (Clive Rowe) — totally magnificent. He commands the stage with effortless authority, bringing both gravitas and warmth to every scene. His booming, velvety voice is a showstopper, full of power, humour and soul, while his stage presence radiates pure joy. Whether delivering a sharp comic moment or grounding the story with emotional weight, he feels like the beating heart of the production. Every time he steps on stage, the entire theatre seems to lean in.
Bold, stylish and emotionally charged, Hadestown is the kind of show that reminds you why live theatre matters. A dazzling celebration of love, hope and resilience — and a showcase for some phenomenal Black talent commanding the West End stage with absolute brilliance.
