After sold-out shows across the country, including performances at the Broadway Theatre Catford, Hackney Empire, The Old Rep Theatre Birmingham, The Library Theatre Luton and the Questors theatre Ealing, the hit courtroom comedy-drama Why Didn’t I Get Married? is back by popular demand. It returns for a spring season of shows culminating with a Bank holiday special at the Becks Theatre, Hayes and Fairfield Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon.

Written and directed by acclaimed poet and playwright Alan Charles, this laugh-out-loud, belly-busting production shines a bold light on the shortage of men in the Black majority church. With an astonishing seven women to every one man, frustration, heartbreak, and “involuntary singleness” run deep among women of faith — but should the church be held accountable for the high number of single women in its pews?

In this roller-coaster courtroom comedy, a group of church women take bold action — filing a class action lawsuit against the church for emotional trauma and “church hurt.” As tensions rise and secrets are revealed, audiences find themselves as judge and jury in this hilariously honest exploration of love, faith, and accountability.

It’s more than a play — it’s a much-needed conversation.
