Gig: The Unplugged Sessions @ Stratford Circus With Bryn Christopher, Bashy, Sabrina Washington, Hannah Rose and Kerry Leatham
Having teamed up with the London Jazz Festival last year to bring the likes of Roachford and Leon Jean Marie to the stage back in November, the Unplugged Sessions return this February with Brummie soul-boy Bryn Christopher filling the headline slot. With a sound steeped in Stax and Motown era soul Bryn has been compared to everyone from Edwin Starr to Gnarls Barkley, and a stint supporting a certain Ms Winehouse on tour has done nothing to dampen the furore currently surrounding the 22-year-old sensation.
Further support on the night comes from the man behind one of the scene’s most eagerly awaited LPs, as Bashy performs jazz-influenced interpretations of his bassline and hip hop favourites, alongside some exclusive previews from said album. Meanwhile Sabrina Washington shows she’s not just been busy winning TV shows (she just won Celebrity Scissorhands) since her Mystique days and drops by to showcase her new soulful, reggae-tinged sound. Throw in Mancunian songbird Hannah Rose, gearing up for her debut single release early in the New Year and soulful folk newcomer Kerry Leatham (another one Bashy had a hand in discovering) and you’ve got another stellar soul line up not to be missed.
