Afrovibes presents: And the Girls in Their Sunday Dresses

‘And the Girls…’ is the story of two characters, The Woman and The Lady, who meet during a long wait in a queue to buy cheap rice. The Woman, an uncomplicated domestic worker, has brought her chair with her; The Lady, a retired prostitute, who considers herself a sophisticated woman of the world, has brought her lunch. Thus the two become interdependent, in a kind of female ‘Waiting for Godot’, where the act of waiting becomes far more important than its expected result. More

Afrovibes presents: The Sibikwa Arts African Indigenous Orchestra

The exuberant nine-piece Sibikwa Orchestra gives audiences a lively exchange of rhythms and beats - a great example of crossover music. Their performances involve high levels of audience participation with everyone on their feet (often with an instrument in hand) as they take part in a feast for the senses, refreshing their musical tastebuds, and evoking the true spirit and ancestry of South Africa. Afrovibes presents: Mother to Mother

American Fullbright scholar Amy Biehl is killed in the Gugulethu township of Cape Town: it’s a senseless murder, carried out by four youths. The mother of one of them tries to make sense of it all by recounting events in an imaginary conversation with Amy’s mother. It’s a real ‘heart to heart’ communication of personal testimony in an imaginary response to this real event. More
