I have a dream... at Polka Theatre
Polka Theatre’s new show for 7 – 11 year olds, ‘I Have a Dream...’ addresses the necessity to remind audiences young and old about the Civil Rights Movement and its relevance today.

In this new production by acclaimed playwright Levi David Addai, south London school boy Raheem goes on an adventure back in time to 1960s America where he meets Martin Luther King’s daughter. Dealing with the importance of freedom of speech and what it means to live in an equal society today, Polka will tackle some sensitive issues; producing the engaging children’s theatre that it is known for. Directed by Polka’s Artistic Director, Jonathan Lloyd, this new production will run alongside the Black History Month celebrations that are taking place throughout October.

Inspired by Martin Luther King’s famous speech, Polka invites audiences to remember that his simple message of equality is still relevant today with this production marking the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington. Polka are also keen to celebrate British Civil Rights and the fight for equality that has taken place much closer to home for over 300 years. Tony Warner, Director of Black History Walks, is making a special appearance at Polka specifically to discuss Black British Civil Rights Heroes on Friday 30 September at 7.30pm to coincide with the production.
