Ctrl.Alt.Shift
User-generated initiative announces the most exciting collaboration of British music and dance artists ever seen in this country. The unique creative arts project has been launched to engage 18 – 25 year olds in issues surrounding HIV and Stigma in the UK and developing countries – with a specific focus on Africa.
Contributors from the UK dance industry include celebrated Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta; choreographers and dancers from Boy Blue Entertainment Skytilz and Flex; former dancer and dance critic/writer Melanie Nix; and Zoie Golding, director of FuzzyLogic & UK producer of Rock Challenge.
Influential names from the music scene include multitalented musician, composer, songwriter, producer and DJ Nitin Sawhney; The Streets’ acclaimed front man Mike Skinner; electro producer Goldielocks; indie band Mystery Jets; and grime collective Boy Better Know.
Ctrl.Alt.Shift aims to use the final performance – also named ‘Ctrl.Alt.Shift’ – to change attitudes to stigma associated with HIV, and inspire young people to take action. Ctrl.Alt.Shift is also announcing a national competition, which will offer young people the opportunity to have their own work showcased at Sadler’s Wells’ Peacock Theatre, as part of one of London’s biggest youth dance events in 2009.
Members of the public between the ages of 18 - 25 will be invited to choreograph their own dance pieces to the remixed tracks by Goldilocks and Boy Better Know. The best entries will be hosted on the site, before the winning entrant is selected by the artists.
The successful clip will be screened as an opening for ‘Rumble’, a collaboration between Sadler's Wells and London Youth Dance. The winner will also receive a top-of-the-range video camera. For your chance to have your work screened at this professional dance performance, visit www.ctrlaltshift.co.uk/sadlerswells - the first 50 entrants will receive free tickets to the ‘Ctrl.Alt.Shift’ performance. To show your support, sign up to the Ctrl.Alt.Shift website and join the fight against global poverty and social injustice.
