Black Reading Group: Inua Ellams’ Barber Shop Chronicles Black Reading Group: Inua Ellams’ Barber Shop Chronicles - (c) Tricia Wombell

Black Reading Group is London’s longest running bookclub for the black reader - it has been going for almost 20 years, and Tricia Wombell has been coordinating BRG for the past 9 years. The discussions have covered many authors and genres, but this is the first time that BRG has read and discussed a script. Barber Shop Chronicles by Inua Ellams is the a study of black male conversations across a variety of African countries. ‘

Tricia Wombell, BRG co-ordinator said, "I can’t believe that we’ve left it so long to consider a play, it’s great that Barber Shop Chronicles is back on the stage in the UK, we always have lively conversations, but I think that knowing about the performances, will help to bring a greater depth to our conversation. Many of the book club members are also theatre-goers.’ To join the Black Reading Group contact Tricia by email: triciawombell@iCloud.com.
