Sadler’s Wells’ annual three-day celebration of hip hop dance theatre and culture, Breakin’ Convention, is back for the ninth year running with performances from some of the world’s best poppers, lockers, house dancers, B-boys and B-girls – all for just £20 or £15 standing.
Hosted and curated by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Jonzi D, Breakin’ Convention offers dozens of extra events as well as the amazing main stage performances.
Starting in the afternoon, ticket-holders can watch top graffiti artists painting live in the courtyard before heading inside to get involved with freestyle sessions, graff workshops and MC / beatboxing demos. Resident DJs Tha En4cers will provide the tunes til the main shows start onstage at 7.30pm.
Headlining on Saturday are Serial Stepperz (France), the world’s top house dance crew, and ILL-Abilities (International), a break dance company who challenge misconceptions about people with disabilities with their stunning performance, No Limits.
On Sunday PT3000 ft. Demons of the mind (USA) will perform in the UK for the first time, bringing with them some classic Filmore Flava. Joining them will be will be Pro Phenomen (France), who will blow your mind with their idiosyncratic fusion of street dance styles.
Monday’s highlights include all female crew Boadicea (UK), a fierce troupe of street dancers who made it to the finals of Sky TV’s Got to Dance. They are joined by current double bboy world champions Vagabond Crew (France) who make a much anticipated return to Breakin’ Convention with their signature piece, Alien.
