Hansel and Gretel - Written by Hope Massiah and directed by Dawn Reid

Hansel and Gretel Hansel and Gretel

Written by Hope Massiah and directed by Dawn Reid. In 2007 Darren Hart thrilled audiences as the loveable Buttons in Theatre Royal Stratford East’s (TRSE’s) Olivier Award nominated pantomime, Cinderella. Darren is set to work his magic again this panto season as the lead character Hansel in the Dawn Reid directed production, Hansel and Gretel. Hansel, in the Hope Massiah original script, finds himself away from his friends and harangued by a new stepmother when his family moves to the middle of nowhere aka the cottage at the edge of the spooky forest, where Hansel and Gretel get trapped in the candy clad cottage by the Wicked Witch.

Of course this is panto, and along with new friends Monty Mole and Yellow bird plus Hansel’s new friend Arabella they manage to have a whole lot of fun and escape the witch at the same time. Darren will be joined onstage by a cast of 11 which includes some faces which may be familiar to the Stratford East audience: Marcus Powell (Who performed his first role as a dame in Sleeping Beauty, also directed by Dawn Reid in 2004, The Harder They Come and The Big Life), Susan Lawson-Reynolds (The Harder They Come, The Snow Queen, Da Boyz and Jack and The Beanstalk), Gemma Salter and Tony Timberlake (Come Dancing).
