Review – Original Garage Brunch

Never underestimate the power a potent mix of nostalgia, cocktails and a carnival atmosphere can have on a hangover. I’m not going to lie, I arrived at this event on very little sleep and I left feeling energised and lifted.

Throwing a cacophony of crowd pleasing hits plus some lesser known classics together with a crowd of people who have clearly made an effort to look and play the part, the brunch is an awesome few hours of hype

If your Saturdays are being spent chasing a good time then the original garage brunch is your best bet for way more than that. From the team behind the inimitable and original hip hop brunch, this event has something for anyone who got caught up in the sexy swirl of speed garage and soulful house during its heyday and holds a helluva lot more for those who didn’t. Throwing a cacophony of crowd pleasing hits plus some lesser known classics together with a crowd of people who have clearly made an effort to look and play the part, the brunch is an awesome few hours of hype that feels like an OG day rave and a place where everyone can strut, shine and stunt a little or a lot.

There are birthday, hen and stag parties all sharing the limelight today and it’s electric, especially in a venue with the scale and stylish layout that Proud Embankment offers.

the dance floor fills up fast, as the sounds start to send everyone into a feel-good frenzy

Bottomless cocktails start the day off right, loosening everybody up so that by the time the games begin just the right amount of inhibitions have been shed and fun is in full effect. The brunch is a #garagefriedchicken that is as crisp as some of the outfits on show and is followed by an apple crumble and ice cream that is just the right type of twice as nice. Once that’s done, the dance floor fills up fast, as the sounds start to send everyone into a feel-good frenzy, with resident DJ and UKG stalwart Lonyo merging sing a long crowd-pleasers with a couple of harder edged classics. But that’s not all; audience participation is taken up a notch with a couple of games, a garage mastermind (which this writer won) and a skank off that delivers plenty worth your snap and insta stories.

All of this adds up to a really simple equation.

2 multiplied by 10 + 1...GB is the one.
