Tiata Fahodzi has appointed Natalie Ibu as its new artistic director. Natalie takes up the role in December 2014. She joins the company as it enters its residency at Watford Palace Theatre, placing the company at the heart of a producing theatre and giving it a creative home for the first time in its history.

Natalie has worked as a freelance theatre director, producer and dramaturg. She comes directly from Derby Theatre, where she was Creative Producer for its In Good Company programme. Previous roles include Associate Director for HighTide Festival Productions, a year’s residency at the Royal Court Theatre in London on the ITV Director’s Scheme, Producer at Only Connect and Programme Manager at Roundhouse. Full professional biography

Natalie Ibu: ‘Tiata Fahodzi has played a vital part in my development, both personal and professional: from brokering a conversation with my own identity and the world as an audience member to facilitating me directing challenging work, as part of Tiata Delights in 2011. It will be an honour to lead this spirited and inspirational company into the future, building on the important work of Femi Elufowoju, jr and Lucian Msamati, and on its exceptional record of diversifying - through its audiences, artists and stories - the cultural landscape.’

Archie Graham, Chair of Tiata Fahodzi: ‘We are delighted to announce the appointment of Natalie Ibu as Artistic Director of Tiata Fahodzi. Natalie comes to us fresh from her important role at Derby Theatre where she inspired and nurtured a wide range of artists, something we are keen to see continue at Tiata Fahodzi. This, together with her impressive track-record as a director and producer, means that Natalie offers thrilling new opportunities for the company.’

Sarah Brigham, Artistic Director, Derby Theatre: ‘This appointment is a testament to Natalie’s great talent, commitment and passion, which we have so appreciated at Derby Theatre. The huge difference she has made to artists in the East Midlands in such a short time, via the comprehensive and innovative programme of artist development she has put in place through In Good Company has allowed the scheme to start with a bang and we will ensure we continue this through the programme.’

Brigid Larmour, Artistic Director, Watford Palace Theatre: ‘Natalie has an inspiring vision for Tiata Fahodzi, and I look forward very much to our future collaborations in Watford and beyond.’
