Lenny Henry tells Afridiziak readers - Come and see Othello Monday, 21 September, 2009
At the after-party for the Othello press night, comedian and thespian, Lenny Henry told Afridiziak editor, Sophia Jackson, why Afridiziak readers should support him by coming to see him in Othello.
Sophia Jackson: "Lenny, how can we get more black people to come to see West End shows"?
Lenny laughs and says, "Send a limo for them". He then gets serious and says: "Black people will only come out if something is really good and worth seeing, so you have to tell them that the show is good. Theatre is universal and Shakespeare is for us. I do think black people should come to the theatre more. I didn't get to see real theatre until I was 19-years-old and when I did start going I thought, this is really good."
You've got until 12 December to see Lenny Henry at the Trafalgar Studios starring as Othello.
