The Alfred Fagon Award celebrates its 18th anniversary with a photo-shoot of past winners and members of the black British performing arts industry.
Held at the iconic Theatre Royal Stratford East on Friday 27th June the Alfred Fagon Award photo-shoot marked its support of black British writers of Caribbean and African descent with a photo-shoot of past winners of The Alfred Fagon Award for Best New Play of the Year.
Past winners were joined by members of the black British performing arts industry including acclaimed theatre director Paulette Randall; Michael Buffong, artistic director of Talawa Theatre Company, Britain’s Black primary-led theatre company; award-winning playwright Patricia Cumper and artistic director of new company StrongBack productions; Dawn Walton, artistic director of Eclipse, the only black-led national touring company and Dawn Reid deputy artistic director of Theatre Royal Stratford East.
The Alfred Fagon Award, awards an annual prize for the Best New Play of the Year written by a Black British writer of Caribbean and African descent.
The Alfred Fagon Award for Best New Play of the Year continues to be supported by The Peggy Ramsay Foundation. This year’s cash prize is £6,000.
The closing date for entries to this year’s award for Best New Play of the Year is Friday, 1st August 2014. This year’s Award event will take place at the Royal National Theatre on 20th November 2014 where the winner of the Best New Play of the Year will be announced.
