Choices magazine is the official media partner for YEAh Live. Afridiziak caught up with the magazine’s co-founder Anthony Charles, business owner, success coach, mentor, speaker and trainer. On March 23, you can learn how he used the magic of ‘Joint Venture’ to start a successful magazine and networking business, with no experience and no money. You will also pick up tips on how to take that leap from employee to entrepreneur.

How did you get involved in YEAh Live?

I was first told about YEAh Live from my business colleague Mr P, he invited me to an event in Brixton, I had a table and had to speak about my business; I guess I did a good job because when they had another event, they invited me as a speaker.

Why should people attend this event?

People should attend the YEAh Live event because it provides such a great opportunity to network and meet people with whom you can potentially collaborate with. You will learn a lot from the various speakers on the day, plus you will have the opportunity to benefit from the wide range of products and services available on the day. YEAh is being lead by Lorraine James; now here is someone that is focused and driven; come down just so that you can meet her.

Your publication Choices is the official media partner for YEAh Live. Please can you tell us a bit more about the magazine and why you ventured into the publishing world?

YEAh is being lead by Lorraine James; now here is someone that is focused and driven; come down just so that you can meet her.

Choices Magazine is a new high quality business and lifestyle printed magazine aimed at helping people to make a smooth transition from being an employee to becoming an entrepreneur. Choices Magazine has four main sections; business, lifestyle, wellbeing and personal growth. It’s aimed at the ever-growing number of people who are employed, but have a dream to run a business of their own. They are normally prevented from pursuing their goal of being an entrepreneur through fear of failure, loss of security or lack of competence.

Choices Magazine directly addresses this problem; for a small price (£4.95 per issue) readers can get direct access advice, tips, success stories and inspiration from entrepreneurs and business owners who have successfully made the transition. Contributors to Choices Magazine provide inspiration, ideas and solutions that work, in the form of articles, interviews, tips and step-by-step guides, helping the readers get over the pain that fear of failure or of the unknown can produce.

I hear way too many young people talking about the future with so much despair. So many have the energy to fight each other, but lack the energy to change the course of their future.

On the other side of the coin Choices Magazine gives a platform to these entrepreneurs and small business owners who would otherwise not have the opportunity to appear in, let alone appear on the front cover of a national magazine. They are not the Richard Branson’s, Karren Brady’s or Duncan Bannatyne’s who we already know and respect, but everyday business owners who have been successful out of the limelight, but have powerful insights, valuable stories and knowledge to share. Most importantly, they are relatable, contactable and approachable should a reader want to engage with them further. We ventured into the publishing world because we found that it was a great way to directly connect these two groups and provide entrepreneurs making the transition with the help they really needed.

Will we be able to pick up a copy of the magazine on 23 March 2013 at YEAh Live?

Absolutely; some of the team will be there, so you can get a copy, subscribe, or even get a great an advertising deal.

Tell us a bit more about Team Titanium?

Team Titanium is a start up business support service backing up Choices Magazine, helping employees to make the transition from employee to entrepreneur; Team Titanium understands the fear of losing a regular income when opting to leave work; the fear of failing and low self confidence many have when wanting to start their business. It recognises and provides business training and a very unique vehicle that can take an ordinary employee and turn them into a successful business owner.

Who is the person who has inspired you most in the business world and why?

There are so many, but if I had to pick one it would have to be Richard Branson; what he has achieved is truly amazing.

What is your favourite quote?

Oh man, I have to choose one again; ok for me it’s got to be Johann Wolfgang von Goethe "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it." Those words stir every single cell in my body.

Who keeps you motivated?

My wife, my children, my parents, extended family, my team, and my clients… People.

What do you think are the biggest challenges for young people at the moment?

I would say for many it’s a lack of preparation. We are living in a very instant world and way too many youngsters want success yesterday. I meet many young people who have great business ideas but they don’t want to follow simple steps to success. They want to be the next Mark Zuckerburg or what they perceive to be an overnight success; unfortunately for many, their lack of preparation and planning proves to be their undoing.

Now if you are talking about what is the biggest challenge facing young people in general, I would say that their biggest challenge is not believing what the main stream media says about how bad their future is going to be and how there are no opportunities available for them. I hear way too many young people talking about the future with so much despair. So many have the energy to fight each other, but lack the energy to change the course of their future.

George Bernard Shaw said it best: “People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them.”

What are your top three business survival tips?

  1. Plan, prepare and then take massive action.
  2. Develop an attitude of ‘No matter what’. Simply meaning that you will succeed no matter what; most people unfortunately can’t do this.
  3. Choose your business partners very carefully; as the late great Zig Ziglar once said: "Until you have had financial dealings with someone, you have not met the real person."

Info: Anthony Charles will be a guest speaker at YEAh Live 3 on 23 March 2013, Montgomery Hall. Get tickets, here.
