The multi award winning Angie Le Mar, one of the UK’s leading comediennes has written and produced TAKE ME BACK musical, a Gospel play which is an emotional roller coaster.

Take Me Back brought the audience together in a heart-warming and uplifting way

Sunday School is where the friendship between Andrea and Patricia started, but when it came to an end, life took over. Dreams were broken and heartaches grew. Even through the brokenness and disappointments, they never forgot who they were.

TAKE ME BACK will take you back in time. The songs, the joy and the laughter will bring you back down memory lane. The musical is based on the Pentecostal churches which have been central to the black British community for generations. It tackles a number of hard hitting issues in a powerful and moving way including issues that are still consider taboo within black communities – whilst this was set within a British Caribbean community church setting I could see similarities with the African Diaspora and its relationship with religion and the church.

The musical performances in this production are strong and whilst the play included 17 cast members the direction and flow meant that each cast member added value and substance to the play no matter how large or small their roles were. Another important factor to highlight is the power of matriarchy and female relationships in the black community and in the church.

Some might argue that whilst men are regarded to be at the helm of the church as deacons/pastors it is the women who hold the church together

Some might argue that whilst men are regarded to be at the helm of the church as deacons/pastors it is the women who hold the church together especially within the Pentecostal/Evangelical churches. One message that Angie Le Mar wants to leave the audience with is the truth about our relationship with our religions, are people true to the faith because they are seeking approval from others or are they true because they follow the authentic principles of what their faith dictates – something to think about.

TAKE ME BACK brought the audience together in a heart-warming and uplifting way, it created an atmosphere of community and shared experience that resonated. You will enjoy this production, it will make you sing, it will make you laugh, it might even make you cry but it will definitely make you think.
